Developing Ontario Critical Minerals
Commonwealth Chemical Industries is an Ontario-based critical minerals chemical manufacturer using hydrometallurgy to convert local feedstocks into magnesium chemicals, calcium co-products, and ultimately magnesium metal.
We are building a staged domestic manufacturing platform that begins with high-value specialty chemical production and advances toward secure Canadian magnesium supply.
What We Do
CCI is developing a hydrometallurgical platform for processing minerals sourced in Eastern Ontario.
Our near-term focus is the production of magnesium chemicals and calcium co-products for industrial, infrastructure, food, pharmaceutical, and advanced material applications.
Our long-term objective is to build toward domestic magnesium metal production, supporting Canadian and allied supply chains in sectors where magnesium is strategically important.
Why It Matters
Magnesium is a critical mineral used across aerospace, automotive, defence, steel, aluminium, flame-retardant materials, and specialty chemical markets.
North America and Europe currently lack secure, large-scale magnesium production, leaving manufacturers exposed to import dependence, price volatility, and supply chain disruptions.
Ontario has the mineral resources, industrial base, and policy environment to help close this gap. CCI is working to develop the missing processing layer by converting locally produced feedstock into value-added chemicals that domestic manufacturers currently import.
Initial Markets
Industrial manufacturers using magnesium chemicals in advanced materials and flame-retardant applications.
Food, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical ingredient manufacturers seeking reliable North American supply.
Municipal and infrastructure customers using calcium co-products in practical regional applications.
Location Advantage
CCI is built around locally produced feedstocks and an Eastern Ontario manufacturing strategy.
This regional model creates a strong logistics advantage, supports local industrial development, and aligns with Canada’s critical minerals, domestic manufacturing, and supply-chain resilience priorities.
Current Stage
CCI is currently focused on technical validation, feedstock characterization, pilot planning, customer discovery, and partnership development.
We are engaging with process scale-up partners, regional economic development organizations, potential customers, and funding programs to support commercialization.
